Happy Mother’s Day!
While you may be accustomed to watching horse or car races, Mariner fans will tell you hydroplane races are where its at. Every home game the Mariners play a hydroplane race on the scoreboard where fans can pick a favorite between the yellow, red and green hydroplane, each one representing a local company. Whirlpools and sea monsters, not typical on Lake Washington where they race, occasionally make an appearance to try to alter the course of the hydroplanes.
During the offseason, tragedy struck when the Mariners lost Greg Halman. An inspiration to so many teammates, family members and fans, the Mariners made a special shirt to celebrate his life. The shirt is orange because Halman was a native of the Netherlands. In Dutch, it says, “broer voor het leven,” which translates to “brother for life.” His name and number are on the back along with “No Grind/No Shine” on the sleeve.
